Çanakkale province in northwestern Turkey recorded a record temperature of 37.2 degrees Celsius on Monday, the highest in 92 years, beating the previous record set in 2007 with 36.8 degrees. For days, thermometers have been above 30 degrees in much of Turkey, including Istanbul, and meteorologists have issued a heat alert for temperatures that will remain above average throughout the country, except in the eastern provinces.
