Istanbul, Turks evacuated from Sudan

First evacuees from Sudan arrive in Istanbul

The first group of 189 Turkish citizens evacuated from Sudan arrived this morning at Istanbul Airport on a plane specially chartered by Turkish Airlines from Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, where they arrived after being evacuated by land from Khartoum. Adding other flights that will arrive throughout the day, the total number of evacuees will reach 301 today. According to the Turkish foreign minister, some 1,500 people, including more than a hundred from 13 different countries who requested help from Ankara, were evacuated by Turkey on buses towards Ethiopia.
