Fenerbahçe showed no mercy thrashing of Pendikspor, a team from Istanbul’s Pendik district which has lost 15 games so far and is second-bottom of the Turkish league standings. In a game clearly dominated by İsmail Kartal‘s side, it was paradoxically the lowly visitors who opened the scoring after 30 minutes with a goal from Halil Akbunar, who impressively beat with a header Yellow Canaries goalkeeper Livaković.
Although the pressure was on and Fener dominated both possession and chances, the game went into the break with the score at 0-1, and it was not until 14 minutes into the second half that Mert Hakan struck with a stunning shot from outside the box that stunned the defence.
Pendikspor were finding things difficult and tried to make up for their inferiority on the pitch by committing fouls to stop Fenerbahçe’s moves, which cost them two players for accumulation of yellow cards: Welinton in the 71st minute for a tackle on Edin Džeko, and Lusabam in stoppage time, who in a matter of seconds picked up a yellow for a fault and another for protesting the first card.
Batshuayi’s penalty put Fenerbahçe ahead with just three minutes left on the clock, while Ferdi Kadıoğlu and İrfan Kahveci added two more goals in the 10 minutes of stoppage time, which was nothing but added torture for a Pendikspor who was just waiting for the referee to blow the final whistle.
The result keeps Fenerbahçe two points behind Galatasaray, which also thrashed Rizespor 6-2 on Friday. Trabzonspor also beat relegation-placed Karagümrük on Saturday, while Beşiktaş visits Gaziantep FK at home in south-east Turkey on Monday.
