Dolphinarium in Turkey closes after the death of 5 dolphins

A dolphinarium located in the tourist district of Marmaris in the province of Muğla, in southwestern Turkey, has finally closed its doors after 5 dolphins died in the last year and a half in this aquatic shows center. In July 2022, several Turkish associations for the defense of animals filed a complaint against the Onmega Dolphin Park in Marmaris after the death of two more dolphins, due to the inadequate conditions in which they were kept, after which the municipal authorities suspended activities in the site and transferred the two remaining dolphins to another dolphinarium in Antalya. This is the third dolphinarium to close in Turkey, where there are still another 7 that will be able to operate for a maximum period of 10 years before closing forever, as required by the new law against animal abuse.
