Iraq, the Iraqi who threw a shoe at Bush, 14 years later

14 years later, the Iraqi who threw a shoe at Bush doesn’t regret what he did

14 years after that image in which an Iraqi journalist threw a shoe at George W. Bush to show his anger at rampant corruption and chaos after the US invasion of Iraq (20 years ago), Muntadhar al- Zeidi, the protagonist of that iconic scene, not only does not regret what he did – despite the fact that it cost him 6 months in prison – but he is still outraged by the situation his country is going through. “The same people who came in 20 years ago with the invaders are still running Iraq despite the problems and the corruption. And the US knows it very well,” he laments. “You feel anger when you see the pain of people 24 hours a day” says Al-Zeidi, who despite everything adds: “This image is proof that one day, a simple person was able to say no to that arrogant person with all his power.”
