Zelenskyy: ‘Turkey is a strategic partner for Ukraine’

During the visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, by a high-level delegation sent by Ankara, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reaffirmed that Turkey is a key strategic and security partner for Ukraine. During the visit, President Zelenskyy also expressed Ukraine’s desire to sign a Free Trade Agreement with Turkey during the planned upcoming visit of Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan.

Turkish media sources reported that Zelenskyy made these statements after the meeting he held yesterday in Kiev with the delegation sent by Turkey, headed by the Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat and the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, accompanied by representatives of some 25 Turkish companies.

‘We discussed the development of bilateral relations, opportunities for cooperation in the production of various types of drones, and the participation of Turkish companies in the reconstruction of Ukraine,’ the Ukrainian leader wrote on social media, adding that ’Ukraine sees Turkey as a partner in terms of both strategy and security guarantees, and is ready to sign a Free Trade Agreement with Turkey during President Erdoğan’s upcoming visit.’

‘Ukraine thanks Turkey for supplying Bayraktar drones’

‘Following the agreements we signed with President Erdoğan in Ankara, I have held (in Kiev) an important meeting with representatives of the Turkish government and the business world. It is important that Turkish companies are present in Ukraine. Our country appreciates Turkey’s support and assistance, especially in the supply of Bayraktar unmanned aerial vehicles,’ Zelenskyy underlined.

For his part, Minister Bolat emphasised that Turkey is prepared to help Ukraine in the reconstruction of the country, as well as to increase economic and commercial cooperation with Kiev, issues that were addressed precisely during the visit of the Turkish delegation to the Ukrainian capital.

‘We have reiterated our determination to achieve the goal of a trade volume of 10 billion dollars (between Ukraine and Turkey) established by Mr Zelenskyy together with our President (Erdoğan),’ wrote Minister Bolat, who also met in Kiev with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
