Mounir Elkhamri, husband of the US consul in Istanbul, Julie A. Eadeh, injured a driver after crashing an official US consulate diplomatic car into another vehicle yesterday on Büyükdere Avenue, in Istanbul’s Şişli district. After performing the breathalyzer test, police who went to the scene of the accident determined that Elkhamri had a blood alcohol level almost 4 times higher than the legal maximum in Turkey (0.63); however, using his diplomatic immunity, the husband of the United States consul left the scene of the accident, while the other injured driver was taken to a hospital.
