Deaths from earthquakes in Turkey increase to more than 46,000

The number of deaths from the recent earthquakes in Turkey has risen to 46,104, according to the latest count of victims provided yesterday by Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan after a meeting of his government cabinet. Erdoğan announced that the authorities plan to establish some 100,000 container houses in the next two months to accommodate a part of the population that has lost their homes in the affected region, which covers 11 provinces with an area larger than Portugal. In addition, 358,037 emergency tents have been installed in the disaster area. In total, more than 1.9 million people affected by the earthquakes have been accommodated in container houses, tents, or temporary accommodation provided by the Government, including hotels and student dormitories.
