1.5 million tourists visited Turkey by cruise ship in 2023

More than 1.5 million tourists visited Turkey in 2023 on board a cruise ship, a figure that represents an increase of 50% compared to the previous year, when one million passengers arrived at Turkish ports, according to the most recent data published by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, which also indicates that a total of 1,192 cruise ships arrived last year on Turkish shores, with October being the month with the highest number of arrivals.

The leading port for cruise arrivals in Turkey in 2023 was Kuşadası on Turkey’s Aegean coast, which welcomed 531 cruise ships and around 779,000 tourists; it was followed in second place by Istanbul with 225 cruise ships and around 403,000 passengers, while Bodrum – another tourist destination on the Aegean Sea – came in third place with 97 cruise ships and more than 101,000 travellers. These data corroborate the boom in cruise tourism in Turkey, and add to Turkey’s good tourism figures, which last year welcomed almost 57 million tourists, a 10.33% more than in 2022.
