Turkey’s navy ranks 10th worldwide in the list of countries with the most powerful navy in the world, according to the ranking prepared by the prestigious World Directory of Modern Military Warships, or WDMMW), a website that to prepare its list takes into account criteria such as the number of active warships and submarines, the age of the ships, logistical support, the offensive and defensive capabilities of the fleet, or its variety and versatility.
The analysis made by WDMMW indicates that Turkey has 90 active vessels – excluding in the count minor, exploration, or ceremonial ships – including a helicopter carrier (referring to the aircraft/drone carrier “TCG Anadolu”), 12 submarines, 16 frigates, 10 corvettes, 11 anti-mine ships, 35 off-shore patrol ships, and 5 amphibious assault ships, with an average age of less than 19 years. WDMMW qualifies Turkey’s outlook as “positive” obtaining an evaluation of 80.5 points.
In addition to placing the Turkish navy as the 10th most powerful in the world, the ranking prepared by this website places the US as the world leader with 243 active ships, followed by China and Russia; Greece, one of Turkey’s main rivals in the Aegean, appears in 22nd place with 63 ships and an average age of 27.5 years; the UK ranks 9th, with 51 ships and an average age of les than 18 years.
