The death of the famous Turkish actress Ece İrtem, who passed away on June 15 at the age of 35 — having celebrated her birthday just the day before — after suffering a heart attack at her home, continues to raise questions after new suspicions have emerged regarding the circumstances of her death; the actress’s own attorney has requested an investigation into whether the heart attack could have been caused by a monkey bite.
Ece İrtem’s lawyer, Uğur Gökkoyun, reportedly filed a brief to the Istanbul prosecutor’s office requesting an examination of the possibility that a monkey bite sustained during a recent trip to Thailand could have contributed to her sudden death, according to the Turkish news network CNN Türk.
The brief notes that the autopsy results should take into account three bite marks located on the actress’s left arm, after relatives of İrtem — who was laid to rest on June 17 in an emotional funeral — confirmed that the young star of Turkish TV series had been bitten by a monkey during her stay in Thailand.
Bites from these animals can cause serious health problems, according to experts
Experts note that monkey bites pose a greater risk of infection than other animal bites and require special attention, particularly due to the possibility of transmission of tetanus and certain viral infections. In the event of a bite, specialists recommend cleaning the wound immediately with plenty of soap and water, applying an antiseptic, and seeking medical attention as soon as possible.
Infections that can develop following this type of bite can place a significant strain on the body’s immune system. If a viral infection reaches the bloodstream and causes sepsis, or if high fever and an intense physical response to stress occur, the heart may be affected. According to some doctors, in people with heart problems or a history of heart disease, these types of infections can lead to serious heart complications, including a heart attack.
In a statement, the lawyer for Turkish actress Ece İrtem noted that “consultations with experts on this matter revealed that monkey bites can have fatal consequences, including sepsis (blood poisoning). Today (Friday), a request was filed with the prosecutor’s office to ensure that this issue is also considered in the autopsy.”
