The acting world in Turkey has been shaken today following the sudden death, at just 35 years of age, of Turkish actress Ece İrtem, known for playing several leading roles in popular Turkish television series: a death that, in addition to being unexpected, occurred under tragic circumstances, according to reports published in the Turkish press.
According to the information available so far and published by the Turkish newspaper Hürriyet, İrtem began feeling ill at her home around 12:00 p.m. on Monday. After emergency services were alerted, and despite all the efforts of the medical teams who rushed to the home to attend to the young actress, who was with her mother at the time, it was not possible to save her life.
The fact is that the sudden death of the actress has caused deep shock throughout the artistic community and among the actress’s fans. Furthermore, a particularly poignant detail that has come to light following the sad news has added even more tragic circumstances to her unexpected passing: it has been revealed that Ece İrtem had celebrated her birthday just the day before her death; in fact, she had expressed her gratitude on her social media for the support and affection she received from her loved ones during her birthday.
The actress’s lawyer, Uğur Gökkoyun, issued an official statement explaining that “Ece İrtem passed away today at approximately 12:00 p.m. The incident occurred at her home while she was with her mother. Initial indications suggest that she died of a heart attack. The investigation is ongoing. The final cause of death will be determined by the autopsy report. The public will be informed once that report is released. I extend my condolences to her family and to all who loved her.”
A life dedicated to performance
Born in the Anatolian province of Sivas on June 14, 1991, Ece İrtem graduated in 2014 from the Department of Opera and Singing at Yaşar University in Izmir, where she ranked third in her class. During her training, she worked with internationally renowned artists such as soprano Aytül Büyüksaraç (general director of the Izmir State Opera and Ballet), tenor Levent Gündüz, pianist Paolo Susanni, and mezzo-soprano Anna Chubuchenko.
Her interest in acting began during elementary school, when she wrote and performed her own sketches for school plays. After moving to Istanbul, she completed acting studies at the Sadri Alışık Cultural Center between 2014 and 2015, where she received training from professionals such as Kayhan Yıldızoğlu, Okday Korunan, Kadim Yaşar, and Tolga Çiftçi.
In addition to Turkey, Ece İrtem has achieved notable popularity among Spanish-speaking audiences in recent years thanks to her roles in successful Turkish series. Among her best-known roles are the character of Işıl in Kızılcık Şerbeti, broadcast in Latin America as One Love or Por un amor, and that of Meriç in the Turkish series Forbidden Apple (Yasak Elma). She has also appeared in other productions such as New Bride (Yeni Gelin), That is My Life (O Hayat Benim), and the film 10 Days of a Curious Man (Merakli Adamin 10 Günü).
