Turkey’s unemployment rate fell for another month to 8.6% of the labour force in March, according to the latest official employment data released today by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), indicating that the number of unemployed people in the Eurasian country fell by 19,000 from the previous month to 3.06 million.
The unemployment rate reached 6.8% among men and 12% among women, according to the report presented on Friday by TÜİK, which adds that unemployment fell by 1.4% compared to March last year. Meanwhile, the employment rate rose in March by 0.2 points compared to the previous month to 49.5%, increasing the number of employed people in the country by 139,000.
TÜİK further notes that the labour force participation rate rose by 0.2 points from February to 54.2%, and that Turkey’s youth unemployment rate – that affecting the 15-24 age group – fell by 0.4 points to 15.1% (11.7% among men, and 21.2% among women), making it the lowest youth unemployment rate in 12 years.
