Unemployment in Turkey fell to 8.7% of the labour force in February, according to the latest unemployment data released on Monday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), which put the number of unemployed at its lowest level in four months after rising slightly in January to 9.1%, and 1.3% below the February 2023 jobless rate.
The report presented by TÜİK indicates that the number of people out of work in Turkey fell in February by 109,000 to 3.08 million, with the unemployment rate standing at 7.3% among men and 11.3% among women. The number of employed persons in the Eurasian country increased in February by 147,000 to 32.4 million, bringing the employment rate to 49.3%.
Youth unemployment in Turkey (in the 15-24 age group) reached 15.6%, also down from 16.4% in January 2024. By gender, youth unemployment fell to 13.3% among men and 19.6% among women.
