Turkey successfully tests anti-bunker bomb from Akıncı combat drone

Turkey-based defence company ASELSAN announced on Friday that it had successfully tested its Tolun-P precision munition, designed to destroy bunkers, by launching it from a Bayraktar Akıncı drone and confirming that the weapon hit its target with precision, destroying it.

The live test was carried out using the Bayraktar Akıncı unmanned combat aerial vehicle, developed by the Turkish firm Baykar. The munition, in the 250-pound class, was launched from the drone, according to a statement issued by ASELSAN on 7 August and reported by the Anatolia news agency.

A munition designed to engage armoured targets

The Tolun-P utilises domestically developed technology from Turkey designed to act as a force multiplier against heavily armoured targets and structures protected by concrete. The system offers improved operational efficiency compared to conventional weapons.

The munition utilises the SADAK-4T multi-payload transport system, which allows multiple units to be loaded onto platforms such as the Akıncı unmanned aerial vehicle. Thanks to this system, pilots can engage multiple strategic targets in a single salvo using electronic fuses, which can be programmed from the cockpit in a matter of seconds.

The Tolun-P can penetrate one metre of reinforced concrete

A drone such as the Bayraktar Akıncı can deploy this munition against targets requiring high penetration capability. To achieve this, the Tolun-P combines high kinetic energy with a specialised front-end design, enabling it to maximise structural damage.

These characteristics enable this Turkish-developed anti-bunker bomb to penetrate fortified underground shelters, command centres and armoured hangars. ASELSAN states that the Tolun-P can penetrate up to one metre of reinforced concrete.
