The US embassy in Turkey has thanked the Turkish police for ending the “security threat” in Istanbul; said threat, unspecified and which, according to the embassy, had been looming over Taksim, İstiklal and Galata in recent weeks, had led to the closure of the consulates of 9 Western countries in Istanbul after an alert for a possible risk to Western citizens in the city, which motivated the energetic protest of the Turkish government at the time. “Our gratitude and respect again to the Turkish police… Thanks to their work, these areas remain iconic places that welcome tourists, and an example of Türkiye,” the embassy said in a statement today.
