US closes embassy and consulates in Turkey due to terrorist threat

The United States announced on Friday the suspension of all services at its embassy in Ankara and at its consulates in the cities of Istanbul, İzmir and Adana, due to “credible reports” about a potential threat of terrorist attack and kidnapping of Americans, calling all its citizens in Turkey to be alert. In 2013, a left-wing suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to the embassy, causing one death and several injuries.
