The city of Trabzon, on Turkey’s Black Sea coast, hosted on Tuesday the inauguration ceremony of the new Trabzon International Airport terminal, an event attended by several authorities including Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, and also Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.
As reported by Turkish media, during the ceremony Uraloğlu stressed that the new terminal will serve to boost services at Trabzon airport, which last year ranked as the country’s 9th largest airport with 3.5 million passengers, while between January and July 2014 more than 2 million travellers passed through its facilities. ‘We have transformed our country into one of the nations with the largest network of air connections in the world,’ he assured.
The minister also highlighted the increase in air passengers in Turkey, which exceeded 214 million in 2023 adding both domestic and international flights, while in the first seven months of 2024 they totalled nearly 130 million travellers, which according to Uraloğlu points to a new record this year: ‘This figure was about 118 million in the same period last year,’ he said.
Trabzon International Airport currently offers international flights through 19 airlines to 20 destinations in 11 countries, including Azerbaijan, Germany, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq and Jordan. Domestically, it maintains direct connections in Turkey to cities such as Adana, Antalya, Gaziantep, Izmir, Istanbul (Sabiha Gökçen Airport), Ankara, Bursa, Diyarbakır and Van.
