Torrential rains in recent hours in several regions of Turkey caused severe flooding in the provinces of Samsun and Giresun in Turkey’s Black Sea region, where avenues and squares were turned into rivers and lakes by the rainfall, which reached 147 litres per square metre in just 6 hours, flooding homes and businesses, and destroying streets and buildings.
Fortunately, despite the severity of the floods, no casualties were reported, officials said. Heavy rains also hit yesterday other provinces such as Uşak in western Turkey, wreaking havoc on streets and avenues. In the coming hours, heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected to continue across central and western Turkey, also affecting the capital Ankara.
