Torrential rains in the province of Rize in Turkey’s Black Sea region have caused floods in recent days that have left severe damage, forcing authorities to evacuate about thirty houses that are at risk of collapse due to landslides. According to the local governor, rainfall of up to 206 litres per square metre was recorded over three days.
So far, at least 38 people have had to be evacuated following the floods in this region of Turkey. Authorities estimate that in the Çayeli district, the worst affected area, the damage to private property such as houses, businesses or vehicles exceeds 5.5 million liras.
