An ancient clock at the central train station in Malatya, in southeastern Turkey, stopped at 4:17 a.m. on February 6 — the exact time the first 7.8-magnitude earthquake ripped through this region of Anatolia, killing more than 46,000 people and leaving hundreds of thousands of buildings destroyed. When a month has passed since the earthquakes, the station employees have decided not to set again the clock to remember the moment the disaster occurred: “We haven’t started the clock again so as not to forget the earthquake. From now on, it will always show 4:17“, says an employee of the station, who affirms that that day they lived “the Judgment Day”.
