A terrible accident occurred this morning in Erzurum, in eastern Turkey, when the driver of a concrete mixer truck lost control of the vehicle and crashed into eight cars at high speed: a shocking moment that was captured by security cameras at the scene.
According to Turkish media reports, the incident occurred at around 9:00 a.m. local time (8:00 a.m. CET) on Abdurrahman Şerif Beygu Street in the Yakutiye district, north of the city of Erzurum. For reasons that are still under investigation, the driver of a heavy-duty concrete mixer truck carrying concrete for construction work in the area lost control and crashed into eight parked cars belonging to workers employed at a construction site, who fortunately were not at the scene at the time.
After running about 100 metres and knocking down eight vehicles, the truck overturned and fell into a construction site. Witnesses alerted the emergency services, and numerous police officers, firefighters and ambulances immediately rushed to the scene. The driver of the truck, identified as Serkan K., was initially rescued by those who witnessed the accident and was later taken to a hospital in the city with serious injuries, although his life is not in danger, according to the latest information.
The brutality of the crash was such that most of the vehicles were completely destroyed. This is the case of the car belonging to Behlül Kocaağa, one of the workers who was working in the construction zone and who witnessed the shocking accident. He told the press that his vehicle was so badly damaged that it cannot be repaired: “We heard a loud noise, looked down and saw the concrete mixer truck crashing into the cars at full speed without stopping. In the end, it fell into the construction site and stopped. We thought hell itself had broken loose, it crushed all the cars.”
