Six people died tragically, two of them children, in a road accident that occurred today on the outskirts of Ankara, in which a collision between two cars resulted in a head-on crash, also leaving several people seriously injured.
Turkish media sources reported that the tragic event occurred this morning in the vicinity of the town of Çalış, located in the district of Haymana, some 70 kilometres south of the Turkish capital, Ankara. For reasons that are still under investigation but which point to an error in an overtaking manoeuvre by one of the cars, two vehicles travelling in opposite directions – a Fiat Egea and a Fiat Linea – collided head-on while travelling along the Konya road.
Witnesses to the brutal accident immediately alerted the emergency services, who sent several ambulances and gendarmerie units to the scene. After examining the victims, the medical personnel confirmed the deaths of six of the nine occupants travelling in the two cars, two of them children, while the other three were taken to nearby hospitals with very serious injuries.
The force of the crash was such that the front of both cars was left completely destroyed by the impact. Relatives of the victims who travelled to the scene were in a state of shock upon learning of the deaths. The tragedy occurred just two days after the end of Ramadan, when several days of national holiday are declared in which hundreds of thousands of people travel by road, and road accidents with fatalities are common.
