The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality‘s (İBB) Transport Coordination Centre (UKOME) has announced new public transport fares, which are increased by up to 100% in some cases. Here are some details on the approved fare increases for the Turkish metropolis.
New fares for Metrobus and Marmaray
According to Turkish media reports, the fare for the longest metrobus journey will increase from 26.27 liras (TL) to 29.68 liras (0.83 euros), while the fare for using the Marmaray tunnel will increase from TL 39.18 to TL 46.94 (1.31 euros).
Price increase in maritime transport
The price for using a ferry between Usküdar – on Istanbul’s Asian coast – and Eminönü – on the European side of the Bosphorus – increases by 13% from TL 22.42 to TL 25.33 (0.71 euro). For the Kadıköy-Eminönü and Kadıköy-Beşiktaş routes, fares both increase from TL 24.98 to TL 28.23 (€0.79), while the Bostancı-Adalar route increases in cost from TL 65.85 to TL 74.41 (€2.08).
New minibus fares
Regarding minibuses (dolmuş), the fare for the shortest distance (up to 4 km) is increased by 16% from TL 15.5 to TL 18 (€0.50), rising from TL 16.50 to TL 19 (€0.53) for journeys of 4 to 7 km, from TL 18 to TL 20 (€0.56) for routes of 7 to 11 km, from TL 18.50 to TL 21 (€0.59) for routes of 11 to 15 km, and from TL 20 to TL 22.5 (€0.63) for routes of 15 to 20 km. The student fare is also increased by 20% from TL 10 to TL 12 (€0.34).
Sea taxi fares are doubled
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has also increased public transport fares for sea taxis or aquataxis (deniz taksi), which had remained unchanged for almost 2 years, and which now suffer a 100% increase from TL 210 to TL 420 (€11.74).
