The historic Greek orphanage of Büyükada, located on one of the Princes’ Islands of Istanbul and considered the largest wooden building in Europe and the 2nd in the world, will finally be restored 55 years after its abandonment to avoid its collapse, as reported Turkish media. Built in 1898 by the Orient Express company as a hotel and casino, Sultan Abdul Hamid II did not grant the license and was bought by a wealthy Greek family, who opened it as an orphanage in 1903. It is considered one of the 7 heritages of Europe at most risk of disappearance.
