Israel carried out heavy airstrikes on the Gaza Strip on Thursday, after the Israeli government denounced this morning the launch of half a dozen rockets against its territory from Palestinian territory. These bombardments come just one day after Israeli troops carried out a violent raid on Nablus in the West Bank, in which 11 Palestinians were killed and more than 80 wounded by gunfire, in the most violent intervention by the Israeli army in the West Bank in the last 20 years. Turkey has expressed its condemnation and has asked Israel to “put an end to these provocations and aggressions to avoid a spiral of violence in the region.”
