The owner of Tavşan Island, a small island on the Aegean coast of Turkey, has decided to put it up for sale online for the amount of 220.2 million liras, the equivalent of about 11 million euros.
The so-called “Rabbit Island” (tavşan in Turkish means “rabbit”), which gets its name because it is populated by these small mammals, is located off the coast of the Turkish province of Muğla and a few kilometers from Bodrum; according to Turkish media, an advertisement for the sale of the island has been published on an online real estate platform under the title “Island for sale in the magnificent Gündoğan Bay”.
The announcement, published on January 23, explains that the island consists of 6 plots and has an area of 71,000 square meters; with a rustic land rating, the island is offered as an investment for crops and olive groves. Apparently, several people interested in buying the island have already contacted the seller.
Actually, the “Rabbit Island” put up for sale is currently a very popular place for tourists who visit this region, since it is only 150 meters away from the coast of the Turkish town of Gümüşlük, with which is connected by the so-called “king’s road“, which crosses the sea.
It is actually a stone path today submerged under a meter of water, built 3,500 years ago during the Hellenistic era. The island, where archaeologists have found the remains of the ancient city of Myndos, including ruins and ancient temples, is said to have been a favorite of King Mausolus of Halicarnassus, an ancient Greek city on whose remains today stands today’s Bodrum, in Turkey.
