Istanbul, fines in İstiklal for not wearing mask

Heavy fines for not wearing mask in central Istanbul

Turkish police began imposing this week heavy fines of up to 1,000 liras (about 130 euros) for failing to wear a mask when walking down central İstiklal Avenue or Istanbul’s Taksim Square, two of the city’s busiest areas. The decision, made by the Beyoğlu district governor and which also includes the obligation to maintain at least 3 metres of separation, caught many of the fined citizens by surprise, and they complained about not knowing the rule or over the sanction being too high.
