The so-called Blue Supermoon or Full Sturgeon Moon, a phenomenon that occurs when the full Moon occurs at perigee (the point in the Moon’s orbit closest to the Earth) shone brightly and could be clearly seen in the Istanbul skies last night, creating spectacular images for a selfie or a photo.
During this phenomenon, the Moon appears 30% brighter and larger than a normal full Moon. The visual spectacle of the Blue Supermoon could be seen in Istanbul from last night until the first light of dawn, as seen in this video shot from Üsküdar on the city’s Asian coast, where the Earth’s natural satellite appears over Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque.
