Galatasaray thrashed Başakşehir 7-0 in Istanbul, and is already 2nd in the league led by Fenerbahçe, before the break for Qatar 2022.
Galatasaray thrashed Başakşehir in Istanbul playing outside its stadium during the 14th round of the Turkish league before the break for the World Cup in Qatar, thus managing to rise to 2nd place in the standings just behind Fenerbahçe, who despite its defeat in Giresun continues as leader for the 4th week in a row.
In the match played at the Başakşehir Fatih Terim stadium in Istanbul, both teams met for the 29th time in the league, with the Lions starting as favourites against the local team, led by Emre Belözoğlu. The first goal came in the 14th minute and would be the work of Kerem Aktürkoğlu – who would also score another two goals in the second half (minutes 59 and 85) – after delivering a powerful shot practically from the penalty spot, striking down Şengezer, the local goalkeeper.
The Argentine Mauro Icardi scored the second goal from a penalty without problems 45 minutes into the first half, while in the final moments before the break, the Burundian defender Youssouf Ndayishimiye scored on his own goal trying to clear a shot from the Kosovar midfielder Milot Rashica.
In the second half, in addition to two goals more from Kerem, Galata’s advantage would be extended by the goals scored by the Belgian striker Dries Mertens in the 65th minute of play, again with the intervention of Kerem as well as Icardi (who also gave the pass of the 4th goal). After Kerem’s third goal in minute 85, awarded by VAR after a possible offside, 3 minutes later Abdülkerim Bardakcı scored the final goal with a beautiful header after a free kick.
With this result against Başakşehir in Istanbul, Galatasaray gets its third consecutive victory in recent weeks and accumulates 27 points, rising from third to second place in the table, a position that Başakşehir loses to fall to 5th place. Fernando Muslera, who received a yellow card in the 76th minute, will miss the next match that Galatasaray due to card accumulation: but that will be on December 25, against İstanbulspor.
