Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the religious ceremony held at the Armenian Church of Surp Asdvadzadzin (Holy Mother of God) in Kumkapı, Istanbul, on the occasion of the funeral for Armenian MP Markar Esayan, member of AKP and of the central executive of the party. “That you share our pain in an Armenian church during these days of intense conflict in Karabakh conveys important messages,” said during the ceremony the Armenian Patriarch of Istanbul, Sahak Maşalyan, who highlighted from Esayan that he always fought to build bridges between Turks and Armenians.
