Erdoğan and his AKP party will win the elections in Turkey that will be held on May 14, and that show only a slight fall of the AKP of less than 2 points compared to the previous presidential and parliamentary elections of 2018, despite the pandemic, rising inflation and recent earthquakes. A survey carried out by the company GENAR shows that in a confrontation between Erdoğan and the candidate of the opposition alliance, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, 52.3% of Turks would vote for the current Turkish president, compared to 47.7% who would choose his rival.
Regarding the parliamentary elections, the AKP falls slightly in voting intentions but would continue to be the majority party with 40.7% of the votes, while the opposition CHP would remain practically the same and would get 23.1%. The 3rd force with the most votes is the Kurdish nationalists of the HDP, who falls one point to 10.8%. The Turkish nationalists suffer significant falls: the MHP falls from 11.10% to 7.6%, and Akşener‘s İYİ Parti loses 3 points and remains at 7%. From these data it can be deduced that the opposition coalition would not be able to win the elections, even after obtaining the support of the HDP. The irruption of the new Homeland Party of former presidential candidate Muharrem İnce stands out, since which would become the 6th most voted party with 4.7% of the votes.
