A businessman has starred in a controversy with great repercussion on social media for his decision to land his helicopter on a public beach in Marmaris, on the Turkish Aegean coast, while people sunbathing watched the scene astonished. Temel Akçay, owner of a technology company, justified his decision by saying that he landed with his family on the beach “to have breakfast” and that a helicopter can land anywhere as long as it does so safely. The General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Turkey, however, accuses him of altering his flight plan, and is considering withdrawing his pilot license.
