The effects of climate change continue to wreak havoc in Turkey, where the glaciers of Mount Cilo, located in the southeastern province of Hakkari and the second highest in the country, have begun to melt rapidly, surprising experts. Precisely less than a month ago, two people died in these mountains after being trapped as a result of an avalanche due to snowmelt on Mount Cilo, usually covered in snow and ice all year round.
A team of scientists from the Department of Geological Engineering of the University of Istanbul, sent to the area, has confirmed the worst predictions: “There is no doubt that the glaciers, which are a symbol of the magnificence of nature, are receding all over the world. the world… Even the glaciers located in the highest areas of Monte Cilo are melting. The resulting torrents of water have eroded the base of the glacier”, declared one of the experts, warning about the consequences that climate change is bringing not only to Turkey, but to the whole world.
