The modest house where the famous Turkish singer of Kurdish and Arab origin İbrahim Tatlıses (İbo) was born – he is one of the most important figures of the last century in pop and “arabesque” music in Turkey – will become a museum thanks to a signed agreement between the governor of the province of Şanlıurfa (in Southeastern Turkey) and the municipality of Haliliye, where the small house in which Tatlıses was born in 1952 is located. “İbo”, who could not even go to school and could not read nor write, earned a living singing at weddings and restaurants until he was discovered by a producer at the age of 23: he then began his artistic career, adopting the name “Tatlıses” (Sweetvoice); since then he has released more than 40 albums and has participated in dozens of movies, being probably the best known singer inside and outside Turkey.
