Last season’s reigning Turkish league champion, Beşiktaş, won the Turkish Super Cup yesterday after beating Antalyaspor 4-2 on penalties. A goal from Atiba Hutchinson put the Black Eagles ahead in the 33rd minute, but Atiba himself scored an own goal in the 74th minute, forcing the Istanbul team to go to extra time, and then to penalties. The Turkish Super Cup faces each year the champion of the Super League and the Turkish Cup from the previous season; since the Beşiktaş won last season both the cup and the league, this time Antalyaspor – finalist in the last Turkish Cup – was chosen as rival. With just 28 points, Beşiktaş occupies 7th place this season, 18 behind the undisputed leader of the Super League, Trabzonspor.
