At least one person has died following severe floods in Turkey‘s southern coastal province of Antalya, where classes have been suspended in at least five districts because of heavy overnight torrential rains that have reached 330 litres per square metre in just 12 hours, flooding shops, homes, streets and roads.
The governor of Antalya gave permission for disabled civil servants, pregnant women and women with children under 6 years of age working in public institutions, to stay at home. The lifeless body of a person was found during the work to clear the debris and the water in the Kepez district. The Turkish National Meteorological Agency has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall for the provinces of Antalya, Isparta and Burdur. Paradoxically, Antalya was in the news earlier this week because beaches such as Konyaaltı were full of tourists in the middle of winter due to the good weather.
