A horrific bus crash in Turkey early this morning left 9 people dead and 30 injured when a bus full of passengers travelling between the tourist resort of Marmaris and the southeastern province of Mardin skidded off the road and overturned, in a tragedy possibly linked to the driver’s speeding.
The accident occurred at 01:15 local time on the D-400 motorway that runs along Turkey’s southern coast, at the exit of a tunnel near the town of Yenikaş in the province of Mersin; according to video footage captured by security cameras at the scene, the bus entered a curve at high speed and hit the guardrail, leaving the road and overturning on its left side with great violence.
Numerous emergency teams arrived at the scene of the accident to rescue the victims. According to the governor of Mersin, a province on Turkey’s southern coast, there were 40 passengers on the bus, as well as the driver and two other company employees. “I convey my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this horrific bus crash, and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” Ali Hamza Pehlivan told the media.
