Nine people were killed and another two wounded after a violent shooting that took place on Thursday morning in Diyarbakır province, southeastern Turkey, in an incident apparently related to a dispute over land ownership between families of Kurdish origin, according to local media reports. The terrible event occurred on the outskirts of the village of Serçeler, and according to the governor of the province, Ali Ihsan Su, it occurred when a fight between two families in the area degenerated into a shootout in which 8 people died, while another of the wounded died while being taken to hospital. Turkish security forces have surrounded the area and are investigating the crime, the governor said. The tragedy is reminiscent of the Mardin Massacre, in which 44 people were killed in 2009 over a dispute between Kurdish clans.
