5.4 earthquake shakes Azerbaijan

An 5.4 earthquake shook Azerbaijan, in the Caucasus region, late yesterday. The earthquake occurred around 9 p.m. with epicenter in the Caspian Sea, 46 kilometers off the coast of Khachmaz province. The tremor, which could be felt in the country’s capital, Baku, as well as in other provinces, did not cause significant damage or casualties, although many inhabitants of the region left their homes in the middle of the night alerted by the earthquake.
