The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced on Sunday the sacking of Stefan Kuntz, the Turkish national coach, after a series of poor results of the men’s national team, exacerbated by controversial statements made by the former German footballer and current coach. According to Turkish media reports, Turkish Football Federation officials have reportedly contacted directly Kuntz to inform him of the decision.
The coach had been under fire after Turkey obtained draw against Armenia in the Euro 2024 Group D qualifier, in which the Turkish national team only managed to get a draw with a goal just a few minutes before the final whistle. More recently, Turkey was beaten 4-2 in a friendly match against Japan in Brussels, after which Kuntz lashed out at the players with all sorts of accusations; Turkish Football Federation president, Mehmet Büyükekşi, said then about Kunts’s comments: “Kuntz has shot himself in the foot”.
