An earthquake that reached an intensity of 5.5 and that unleashed this morning in the province of Adana, on the Mediterranean coast in southern Turkey, left no casualties or significant damage, according to Turkish authorities, although there were moments of panic among the population, who took to the streets after the tremor. The quake struck at 8:44 a.m. local time (7:44 a.m. CET) with its epicenter in the Kozan district, some 70 km away north of the provincial capital, and originated about 11 km. deep, being felt throughout the region and in several neighboring provinces. This new tremor occurs just 5 months after the 7.8 and 7.6 earthquakes that devastated the entire southeast of Turkey, including Adana, and left more than 50,000 dead.
