The death toll from the 7.8 and 7.6 earthquakes that devastated southeastern Turkey on February 6, with an epicenter in the province of Kahramanmaraş, already exceeds the 50,000 barrier, according to the latest data provided by the Turkish agency of emergencies AFAD, which raises it to 50,096 the deaths. The earthquakes also left some 2 million people homeless: the Turkish government has set up 480,000 tents in the disaster area with the capacity to provisionally accommodate 1.9 million people, and has begun delivering initial aid of 10,000 liras to each family affected by the earthquake.
