With this agreement closed with BioNTech, Turkey will receive up to 120 million doses of the vaccine marketed by Pfizer.
Turkey has signed a contract for the purchase of 60 million additional doses of the coronavirus vaccine jointly developed by BioNTech-Pfizer, with an option to purchase an additional 30 million doses, in addition to the 30 million doses that Ankara already acquired last December.
“This second supply agreement brings the total number of doses that will be supplied to Turkey to 120 million, all of which will be delivered in 2021,” informed the German-based company BioNTech, creator of the vaccine and founded by a Turkish immigrant couple.
“We are grateful to be able to make an important contribution to Turkey’s vaccination efforts, and for the trust placed in us,” said Uğur Şahin, CEO and co-founder of BioNTech. “Our goal is to deliver as many doses of our COVID-19 vaccine as possible around the world to help end this pandemic, reduce COVID-19 hospitalisations, and return to normal life,” he added.
Turkey yesterday registered 11,533 new cases of coronavirus infections and 233 deaths caused by COVID-19, according to official figures from the Health Ministry. 26.7 million people have been vaccinated since January and to date in Turkey, 11.4 million of them with both doses of the coronavirus vaccine.
