8 injured in bus overturn accident in Turkey

Eight people were injured in a bus accident at midday this morning when the vehicle, for reasons still under investigation, left the road and overturned after colliding with a lorry while travelling on the motorway between Isparta and Antalya.

Turkish media reported that the accident occurred at around 12:50 local time (11:50 CET) as the motorway passed through the Bucak district in Turkey’s Burdur province, about 100 km north of Antalya. For unknown reasons the bus collided with the rear of a truck driving on the road just ahead, and immediately the bus driver – identified as 45-year-old Temel B. – lost control of the vehicle.

The bus eventually left the road and ended up overturning on its left side, in an accident that left 8 injured including the bus driver himself. After the emergency services were alerted on 112, several teams from the gendarmerie and fire brigades as well as ambulances were dispatched to the scene of the accident, from where the injured were taken to hospitals in the region. It is being investigated whether the driver fell asleep at the wheel or was distracted while driving.
