Car sales in Turkey grew by 30% last February compared to the same month last year, according to the latest data released this week by the Automotive Distributors Association (ODMD), setting a new record for vehicle sales that has stood since 2023, when 1.23 million vehicles were sold in Turkey.
A total of 82,77 passenger cars and 23,713 vans were sold in February in Turkey, which according to ODMD represents an increase of 112.6% compared to the average February sales in the last 10 years; compared to the same month in 2023, passenger car sales grew by 39.67% last month, while light commercial vehicle sales increased by 6.6%.
Electric vehicles accounted for 6.7% of total car sales in Turkey in February, while hybrid cars accounted for 14.8%. Overall, automotive sales in Turkey increased by 40.6% in January and February compared to the previous year, as many Turks are investing in car purchases as a protective shell against the effects of high inflation in the country.
