2 years after she was rescued injured when an 8-story building collapsed in Istanbul’s Kartal district, and after going through 55 operations, little Azra Havva Tekgöz, then 7 years old, is walking again. In 2019 Azra was miraculously rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building, in which 21 people died, albeit with serious injuries to one leg; after several hours of surgery, doctors managed to save her leg, but she has had to go through two years of intense rehabilitation and dozens of interventions to be able to stand up and walk again, and she still has several more years of treatment ahead. “I want to study. I want to become a dancer and teach ballet to children,” says Azra.
