The unemployment rate in Turkey rose to 9%, according to the latest data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) for the month of November, representing an increase of 0.4% compared to October’s unemployment level, which reached its lowest level in 11 years.
According to the report presented by TÜİK, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over rose by 115,000 in November to 3.1 million unemployed nationwide, with the unemployment rate by gender standing at 7.5% among men and 11.8% among women.
The number of people employed in the Eurasian country fell by 236,000 to 31.6 million compared to the previous month. Thus, the employment rate in Turkey fell by 0.4 points to 48.2%. At the same time, the unemployment rate among young people – in the 25-24 age group – increased by 0.3 points in November to 16.5%.
