Unemployment in Turkey fell to 8.5% of the labour force in April, according to the latest data released on Monday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), putting the unemployment figure in the Eurasian country at its lowest level since October 2023.
The report released today by Turkey’s official statistics agency shows a decline of 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous month (March), with a fall by 18,000 people bringing the number of unemployed to 3.04 million. By gender, unemployment reached 7.2% among men and 11.1% among women in April.
TÜİK data indicate that the labour force participation rate remained unchanged from March at 54.2%. Meanwhile, the employment rate reached 49.5% in April with 32.6 million Turks employed, according to the statistical report. As for the level of unemployment in Turkey among young people – the 15-24 age group – it also fell in April by 0.1 points to 14.5%, with 12.2% among men and 19.1% among women.
