Turtles return to Turkey’s beaches to lay their eggs

Thousands of loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) leave the sea these days and arrive on the beaches of the provinces of Adana, Mersin and Hatay, on the eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey, to lay their eggs. Only on the beach of Akyatan, in Adana, 10,500 baby turtles were born last year from a total of 434 nests, although this year experts predict that their number will be lower.
